These scholarships target high school seniors in the Times' audience area who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing journalism as a major in college and as a career. The scholarship is worth $2,500 per year and may be renewed annually. Up to 4 winners are selected each year. Students from these Florida counties are eligible to apply: Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando.  Application deadline: January 20. Winners are notified by the end of February.

The Barnes Scholarships were established in 1999 to help college-bound teens who are high academic achievers, who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives and who have financial need. Each of the four winners is eligible to receive up to $15,000 per year for four years to attend any nationally accredited college or university. The scholarship may be used to pay for expenses related to the cost of college attendance. The students must be enrolled full-time and remain in good academic standing to continue to receive the scholarship. High school seniors from these Florida counties are eligible to apply: Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough. Application period: August 1 to October 21.

ONLY students who are HIRED as part of the Summer Internship Program at the Times are eligible to apply for these awards. Scholarships are worth up to $3,000 for returning fulltime undergraduate students and up to $1,500 for returning full-time graduate students.

The Peggy Peterman Scholarship seeks to encourage diversity in media employment. It is worth $5,000 and includes a paid internship at the Tampa Bay Times. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate minority students who are committed to careers in journalism, with at least one newspaper or news website internship or equivalent professional experience. Deadline to apply is Nov. 1. Indicate in your application that you are applying for the Peterman Scholarship/News Internship.
